Stanley Elkman

Stanley founded Elkman Advertising in 1954. The son of a meat store owner, he studied commercial art at Bok Technical School, then served in the South Pacific during World War II. His first job after the war was as a commercial artist with the Atlantic City agency of Gelula Associates. During his 10 years there, Stan also worked as an art director, production manager and then as general manager.  He left in 1954 to start his own agency.  With only a handful of clients and employees when he started, he built Elkman Advertising from $300,000 in billings in 1955 to almost $30 million in 1982. Stan’s tenure at the helm of Elkman was marked by his dedication to hard work and his clients. He was also known for his shrewd business acumen, guiding his agency through the many changes that altered the face of advertising in over 40 years.
