History

Elkman Advertising represents three generations of creativity and business savvy, stretching from Stanley to Richard to Mollie. Three generations of experience serving clients in fields ranging from banking to food service, medical facilities to professional sports, real estate to consumer goods. As advertising has changed, so has Elkman Advertising. Marketing campaigns have morphed from tv, print and outdoor, to integrated campaigns featuring digital, traditional and social media. While the basics of advertising may have changed, the Elkman philosophy of sound strategy, strong client relations and great creative hasn’t.

Stanley Elkman founded Elkman Advertising in 1954, after a 10-year stint at Gelula & Associates. Thriving during the golden age of advertising, Elkman Advertising grew and changed as the industry did. “When I started, this was an uncomplicated business,” noted Stan Elkman. “You did the ‘marketing’ thing by instinct.” As the industry became increasingly complex, “we leaned more heavily on research.” So while creativity is at the heart of advertising, Elkman just as firmly believes that agencies – and clients – need more in order to be successful.

In addition to being a great ad man, Stan Elkman was also a shrewd businessman. “Any successful business is the result of good financial management,” he said. The success of Elkman Advertising is evident in its client list: McDonald’s, Friendly’s, The Philadelphia Flyers, Buena Vista Distributing (Walt Disney Films), Herr’s Potato Chips, Garden State Racing Association, and the American Diabetes Association. Elkman Advertising’s hallmark client was McDonald’s, an account it handled for three decades. Known as “McDonald’s agency”, Elkman helped create the initial concepts for the Ronald McDonald House with the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as the “Shamrock Shake Leukemia Benefit" campaign, and many other award-winning marketing programs.

More recent clients include Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education, Jason Matthew Salon, Fresh Meal Plans, Isagenix, Dakota Nantucket Boutique, and Ferst Specialty Foods.
